FAQ: Steam- and server issues

Question: Which ports have to be opened for Steam?

If you are having issues finding new servers or making connections, we recommend to forward the ports required by steam in your modem/router settings. How to forward ports can be found in your user manual of your specific router. Mostly, you will have to enter an IP similar to 192.168.x.x into your browser, the last two digits vary depending on your device.

Moving on to the network settings, you have to specify port rules (sometimes dubbed "Port Forwarding").

The following ports should be forwarded:

  • UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive (Game client traffic)
  • UDP 27015 to 27030 inclusive (Typically Matchmaking and HLTV)
  • TCP 27014 to 27050 inclusive (Steam downloads)
  • UDP 4380

Dedicated or Listen Servers

  •  TCP 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)

Why you shouldn't simply forward any port to your machine? The router or modem usually comes with an integrated firewall, which blocks certain ports that malicious software uses to communicate or infect your system. Some non-malicious software on the other hand, need some more freedom, this is why you have to specify some port forwarding rules.
