Control-Point Maps

Control-Point consists of some tactical points on the map, which have to be taken by a team to win. Every CP-Map has some differences, how to take the Control Points.

CP-Badlands:
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 - Map - CP_Badlands

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - CP_Badlands Overview CP_Badlands is one of the Control Point Maps. Each team starts with 2 Control Points, the central Control Point is neutral. Unlike older CP Maps, Badlands is not only horizontally well structured, but also vertically. The several ways to the center also allows a wide variety to use.

CP-Dustbowl:
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 - Map

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - CP_Dustbowl Overview CP_Dustbowl is a well-know map from Fortress Classic times. Dustbowl has 3 different phases with two Control Points per phase. These have to be taken by the offensive team. For every taken CP the team will gain a time bonus and a point. Should they have taken the 2 Control Points in a phase, the following sector will be opened and the defending team gets one minute to build their defense.

CP-Granary:
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - CP_Granary

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - CP_Granary Overview CP_Granary consists of 5 Control Points. The target is to take all 5 CPs. Every team starts with 2 Control Points near their base. The CP in the middle is neutral at the beginning until it is taken. On CP_Granary only the next Control Point can be taken. It is impossible to run directly to CP 5 to take it, if CP 4 is not acquired by the own team.

CP-Gravelpit:
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 - Map - CP_Gravelpit

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - CP_Gravelpit Overview The battle on CP_Gravelpit is about capturing 3 Control Points. The attacking team has to take Control Points A and B first, before getting acces to Control Point C. The defending team hast to hold at least one CP for the match time to win the round.

CP-Well:
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - CP-Well

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map Just like CP_Granary, CP_Well has 5 Control Points. Both teams start with 2 Control Points. The middle CP is neutral until it is taken. All Control Points have to be taken step by step.

CP-Fastlane:
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map Fastlane is a symmetric map with 5 control points, similar to Granary or CP_Well. It's one of the community maps that were added to the Valve maps pool during the Pyro Update. The creator of the map is Arttu "skdr" Mäk. At the beginning of each round, one team must capture the Control Point at the center of the map first. After this Control Point has been captures, two other Control Points remains. Each non-center Control Point can be reached from 3 ways, which makes both defending and attacking the point a difficult task.

CP-Steel:
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map CP_Steel is a map with 5 Control Points, similar to CP_Gravelpit. It's one of the community maps that were added to the Valve maps pool during the Heavy Update. The creator of the map is Jamie "Fishbus" Manson. CP_Steel is a classic Capture Point map, much like Gravelpit, but there is a major difference: The game ends as soon as the central Control Point E has been captures. CP E isn't locked right from the beginning and can be captures at any time. However, capturing Control Point A, B, C and D makes capturing Control Point E easier. Here is a list of advantages the BLU team receives for capturing one of the first 4 Control Points:
  • Control Point A: A gate between CP A and E as well as a gate between A and E will be opened.
  • Control Point B: A gate between CP B and C will be opened. Also, the first spawn will be closed, giving the BLU team a shorter way to the other Control Points.
  • CP C: 3 bridges will be extended, allowing to reach CP E by simply walking on the bridges. Before CP C is captured by the BLU team, only a Scout, a Soldier and a Demoman can reach CP E.
  • Control Point D: The gate between the main spawn of the RED team and CP E will be closed. The RED team can only reach CP E by using a way over CP C or D. Also, guardrails will be extended to the bridges, allowing a more secure walk on the briges.
If the BLU team succeeds in capturing Control Point E, a missile will launch in the room where CP E is. Any player who is standing inside this room will be killed by either the flames of the rocket engine or falling into the pit.

CP-Junction:
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - CP_Junction

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - CP_JunctionOverview Junction was official added to the mappool of Team Fortress 2 during the Scout update. Before that, it was a well-known Custom map, especially in the USA. It's a Controil Point Map which is build up like Gravelpit. You have to conquer Point A und B first to unlock C. Togheter with Turbine, it's the only official map which plays in a closed building. Because of this, it's very difficult for Sniper's to "work".

CP-Egypt:
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - CP_Egypt

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - CP_Egypt_Overview Just like Junction, Egypt, a map from a custom mapper, has been added to the official mappool during the scout update. This Map is using Textures which are looking like a pyramid, which aren't used by Valve. It's a Control Point Map, just like the "forefather" Dustbowl. 3 Stages have to be conquered or defended. Each Stage has 2 Control Points.

Capture the Files Maps

Capture the Files are the well known Capture the Flag Maps from many other shooters, just like in Team Fortress and Team Fortress Classic. Instead of a flag every team has a suitcase (the so called "Intelligence"). Both teams have to take the enemy's suitcase to their base to win a round.

CTF-2Fort:
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - CTF_2Fort

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - CTF_2Fort Overview On CTF_2Fort every team has got their intelligence in the cellar of their base. They have to take the enemy's Intel or defend their own. What is more important depends on the play of the both teams. Is the own team too defensive, they need to become more aggressive. And vice versa, too aggressive makes it too easy for the enemy to get in the base to steam the suitcase.

CTF-Well:
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - CTF-Well

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - CTF_Well Overview CTF_Well is the second Capture the Files Map which Valve created for Team Fortress 2. The CTF version of Well is only slightly different compared to CP Well: All Control Points, as well as the spawn rooms near the intel (CP5) and at the center (CP3), has been removed. An additional spawn room at CP4 has been added.
CTF-Turbine:
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map CTF_Turbine is a comparatively small CTF map. It's one of the community maps that were added to the Valve maps pool during the Pyro Update. The creator of the map is Bill Johnston. The Intelligence is located near the spawn of each team. There are 3 ways which leads to the intel: Through a way near the enemy spawn, through a hallway with two entries to the intel or through the vents at the upper level of the map. Turbine allows a big variety on strategies for both defense and offense.

Territory Control Maps

Territory Control Maps are somewhat similar to CP-Maps. You have to take Control Points, but which ones decides the game itself.

TC-Hydro
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - TC_Hydro

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - TC_Hydro Overview To win, a team has to control all 6 territories. Per round the game chooses two control points, one owned by each team. A team wins, when it takes the enemy's CP.

Payload Maps

The Payload Mode is inspired by the escort maps from Team Fortress Classic. The mode has been included during the Medic Update. The BLU team must escort a Payoad to the RED base. A Payload moves only when at least one player from the BLU team stands near the playoad. Each additional teammate increases the speed the Payload is moving forward. The RED team must defend their base and stop the payload from reaching their base. The RED team wins when the payload hasn't reached its final destination before the round time ends. The BLU team wins when the payloads successfully reach its final destination before the round time ends. The Payload heals nearby BLU players, much like the Engineer's Dispenser do. If a Payload reaches it's final destination, it explodes and kills all players near the last point, much like at the end of CP_Steel in case of a victory for the attacking team.

PL-Goldrush
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - PL Goldrush is the first Payload Map included into the Valve map pool. The map has been included during the Medic Update. Like in CP_Dustbowl, there are a total of 3 stages, each stage containing 3 to 5 Points the payload must pass. After the Payload has reached it's final point on one stage, the game changes to the next stage. if the Payload reaches the last Point on stage 3, the BLU team wins.

PL-Badwater
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map - PL Badwater is the second Payload Map included into the Valve map pool. The map has been included during the Heavy Update. Unlike PL_Goldrush, this map has only one stage with a total of 4 Points for the Payload to pass. The first part of the map features a hill (as pictured) while the rest of the map features several houses and open areas. After the second Point has been reached by the Payload, the gate leading to the rocky environment shut down, forcing the RED team to take a longer way to stop the BLU team.

Arena Maps

Arena Maps are somewhat of a Team-Deathmatch mode for Team Fortress 2. The game mode has been added to the Valve maps pool during the Heavy Update. Players from each team fight against each other until all players from one team are dead. Alternatively, a team can capture a single Control Point to instantly win a round. The Control Point, however, is only available after one minute has passed after the start of a round.

Unlike all other game modes, there is no respawning after a player dies, similar to a Sudden Death. In addition to that, there are only a few Healthpack, and sometimes even no Healthpack at all. This gives the Medic and the Engineer's Dispenser an even more important role in this mode. Classes like the Pyro and the Spy also benefits from the new game mode.

ARENA-Lumberyard
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map Lumberyard is the first Arena Map included into the Valve map pool during the Heavy Update. It is also the first official map to feature a Alpine-themed environment. The map features three houses in total: two houses on each side of the map which are the spawn points of each team, and a house in the middle with the Control Point. The only Healthpack on this map is located on a small trunk over a cliff.

ARENA-Ravine
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map Ravine is the second Arena Map included into the Valve map pool during the Heavy Update. The center of the map features a tower with the Control Point in it. There are Healthpacks on this map

ARENA-Badlands
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map Arena Badlands is the Arena version of the original CP_Badlands. The central Control Point on the bridge is the only Control Point now. The map is smaller since fences blocks the players from reaching some outskirts like the second and last Control Points of each team.

ARENA-Well
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map Arena Well is the Arena version of the original CP_Well. The two last and second Control Points has been removed in this version, the Control Point inside the main building has become the only Control Point in the game. (The train is still driving, so watch out!). The water pit has been removed, there is only a small water tunnel that allows a fast access to the building.

ARENA-Granary
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map Arena Granary is the Arena version of the original CP_Granary. The central Control Point near the containers has become the only Control Point on this map. The spawn points are located where the second Control Points were located in the original version.

ARENA-Watchtower
Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map

Team Fortress 2 - TF2 Map Watchtower was the first Custom-Arena Map, which was added to the official mappool during the Scout Update. The developer Joshua ‘JoshuaC’ Shiflet used the mountainscape textures, which have been released together with the Heavy update and made a big map which center is build up by a Tower.
