Mecha Update Day 1: The Mecha-Engineer
Written by KamiKatze on 20.12.2012 Time 15:46

Christmas, the days of love? Apparently not in Team Fortress 2. Valve released a blog post containing this year's Christmas Update: The Mecha Update.

Mecha Update

On day 1, Valve promotes the theme, the new map and a  new comic. Moreover, we get a tiny prospect in the coming items. The focus, once again, lies on the  Mann vs. Machine Gamemode. The Robot armies have received reinforcement: the Mecha-Engineer !

The Mecha-Engineer

The Meca-Engineer is a robot version of the engineer, that is supposed to be one of the  Giant Robotes. Though, it remains unknown which skills this one has. If he is indeed capable of building Sentry Guns, MvM will be more difficult.

Besides the new robot class, there is a new Mann vs. Machine Map: MVM Big Rock.

The new MvM Map

Big Rock is probably the biggest MvM map yet. Its tremendous size will give you enough time to stop the robots on their long way to set the bomb. Right? Well, the Mecha-Engineer might be able to build teleporters. That means, that the robot hordes can take shortcuts to the bomb spots, if the defenders are unaware.

New Items

Clarified information on the new items are not yet available. However, the two posted pictures give good evidence, what items are coming into the game.

Mecha Update 2012

As you see on the picture, the Engineer will get a new rifle, the Demoman will get a portable cannon and the  Medic will have a new Medigun. The following picture reveals more new items that will hopefully be implemented in the game. These, along with the formerly mentioned items have come directly from the Steam Workshop. User AgentBull has been so kind as to post all Steam Workshop Links in  this Thread. Follow the link if you want to have a look at the new items.

*UPDATED*

A DLC is available for Team Fortress 2: Team Fortress 2 Holiday Pack. If you purchase this content, you will receive three Christmas items as soon as the update is released. The DLC costs 16,74€ at the moment and is available through "Team Fortress 2 -> Downloadable Content". Items via DLC? This is completely new! What do you make of it? Let us know in the comments!

Smissmas2012

If you are intrested why Valve wrote in Japanese on the blog page, you will find help with  this forums post. A user of the Steam Forums has translated everything for us. Though, it's nothing hardly earth-shattering...

Besides the Mecha Update, there is new information on another update, which will be coming in or after holidays: Adult Swim is going to have a shop in Team Fortress 2. There will be new items for its opening. These are available here: Adult Swim TF2 Items. However, it is yet unknown when the items will be realeased and how you can purchase them.

Finally, some news concering TFP: We opened up a Scammer-Forum, where you can report Scammers that re to ream the  FAQ Thread beforehand, open a thread afterwards!
